FAQs
Below are answers to some of the most commonly-asked questions about our Forsyth Medical Group practices.
What if I have a medical emergency after hours?
The Novant Medical Group practices have a plan in place to help you if you have an emergency after your doctor's office closes. Please keep your doctor's phone number posted in a handy location so you can call the office. Please dial 911 for a life-threatening situation that does not allow time for you to call your doctor's office.

Why is having a primary care physician so important?
Choosing a primary care doctor is a great way to maintain exceptional health throughout the course of your life. In addition to treating acute illnesses, your primary care physician can partner with you to meet your long-term health goals and needs. Over time, this relationship can translate into continued health and enhanced quality of life.

Will my primary care physician care for me if I am admitted to the hospital?
Many of the Novant Medical Group providers work with the Inpatient Physicians of Forsyth (IPOF), a team of qualified hospital specialists at Forsyth Medical Center. These IPOF specialists are a multi-specialty team of physicians who admit and care for our patients during their hospital stay. Our providers are in communication with the inpatient physicians regarding treatment plans and questions regarding care and discharge. We have trust and confidence in the expertise and ability of these physicians to provide responsive, quality care to our patients throughout their hospital visit. However, many of our physicians also admit to their community hospital as well. In many of these situations, your primary care physician will care for you during your hospital stay.

Will I always be able to see my primary physician when I am sick?
If your provider is unavailable when you need to see him or her, you can schedule an appointment with another one of our physicians, physician assistants or nurse practitioners.

How do I obtain a prescription refill?
If you need a prescription refill, please call your pharmacy. The pharmacy will contact your physician for approval of the refill. Please remember to call your pharmacy before your supply of medicine runs out and leave ample time for it to be refilled. Check with your doctor to see if he or she requires 24-hour notice to obtain a written prescription and how to handle refills after hours or on the weekends.

What do I need to bring with me to my appointment?
Patients should bring the following items with them to their appointment:
  • Insurance card. To comply with insurance company requirements, you must show your insurance card at each visit.
  • A complete list of current prescriptions or the actual bottle.
  • Any over-the-counter medications, herbal supplements or vitamins you take since any of these can affect your body and its reaction to other medications that may be prescribed for you.
  • Pertinent information about your medical and surgical history, such as records of previous treatment, immunization record and a copy of your previous medical records if you are transferring from another practice.
  • In some situations, you may need to bring recent x-ray films, MRIs, and CT scans. You will be advised at the time your appointment is made if these are needed.

What types of health insurance plans do you accept?
Novant Medical Group practices accept most health insurance plans. For a complete list of plans accepted, visit our "Billing and Insurance" page.

What do I do if I can not make my scheduled appointment? What happens if I miss a scheduled appointment?

We realize that extenuating circumstances can arise at the last minute for all of us. Our goal is to provide you with continuous and consistent care and to ensure that you receive appropriate medical treatment. Please call your doctor's office 24-hours in advance if you can not make your scheduled appointment. This will help us care for you and may allow another patient to benefit from the time reserved for you.

There will be a $25 fee for repeat missed appointments. Because insurance companies do not pay for this charge, the patient or guardian will be responsible for this fee. Your doctor's office will be more than happy to help you schedule appointments around your special needs and will make every effort to accommodate you.

What do I do if I can't pay my co-pay or pay my bill?
We ask that all our patients be responsible for the payment of services rendered in their behalf. This may include your co-payment, payment for services not covered by your insurance and/or any balance left after we have received payment from your insurance company. However, we understand that there are times when a patient may be experiencing financial difficulties and is unable to render payment for service rendered. In such cases, we want to help you before you account becomes delinquent (90 days or more). If it is difficult for you to make payment, please call one of our service representatives at 336-718-4820r toll-free at 800-448-0065 for a confidential discussion of the options we have to help you.

Is there a fee to have sports physical, insurance, etc. forms filled out by my doctor?
We will be glad to complete health forms you may need, including school, sports physicals, insurance or disability when you bring them to a scheduled appointment. However, because of the time involved to complete these documents, there will a $15 charge for this service if the forms are brought to the office for completion with no scheduled appointment.

Do you have parking at your facility? Is it free?
Yes, our practices provide free and convenient parking at their offices.
